Former justice and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra and businessman Hartono Tanoesdibyo are facing life imprisonment for their alleged roles in a graft case involving a government website.
Attorney General Office’s special crimes investigations chief Arminsyah said Monday the two suspects had allegedly violated the 1999 Law on Corruption, which carries a minimum penalty of life imprisonment and a maximum penalty of death.
The case centers around an online service initiated and owned by the Justice and Human Rights Ministry offering public services, including the issuance of notarized acts and the registration of permits, in 2002.
The website (www.sisminbakum.com) was operated by PT Sarana Rekatama Dinamika (SRD), partly owned by Hartono.
The graft allegedly cost the state around Rp 420 billion (US$47 million).
